Gavin
Skerrit – Eastenda |
Work
continues on this unique event in Gavin’s
workshop and rehearsal space at London Docklands.
The show comprises a collaboration with sound engineer,
Wolfgang Matejek and directions from Irene Hardy,
David Alcock and Knut Østrådal (Adger
Theatre, Norway).
EASTENDA looks at the history of the people who
lived and worked in and around the docks and factories
of East London. Using mask, puppetry, sound and
inspiration coming from Gavin’s family and
ex-Dockers, EASTENDA reflects on the momentous changes
and events that have affected and moulded this community,
starting from the birth of the docks and factories
to the present day, giving a voice to an isolated
and now forgotten community.
At present 3 public performances are booked for
The Museum in Docklands. The first performance will
be in March 18th 2005 with the other two to be programmed
into their summer programme of events. Tickets can
be booked on 0870 4443855. Gavin is also delighted
to report that he has been invited to show both
Y Weledigaeth and EASTENDA in the International
Figurtheater Festival, Norway this October.

contact details to info@gavinskerritt.com

Mimics
productions branches out! |
 |
On
the first Anniversary of its founding, Crafty Kids
Ltd has launched its brand new web site. PUK and
BPMTG member Sally Preisig of Mimics Productions
and her business partner Sarah Gunn have been slaving
over their original designs for puppet and craft
kits for children and now have something to show
for it!
Each kit comes in its own colourful spotted plastic
paint tub, complete with everything – the
brush, paint, glue, and full instructions, and the
string puppets have specially made treasury tags
for the threading, so there is no knotting involved.
It all started as Sally’s professional puppet
making business had generated local interest for
puppet and craft workshops and parties, so they
got designing! Craft Kids hold parties in Fareham,
Hampshire, and can also send out complete bespoke
party packs for despatch UK wide.
Their web site can be found at http://www.craftykids.co.uk |

The
Chatterbox by Pickled Image
Opens Bristol Old Vic Studio March 16th, before
international touring.
An extraordinary detective story for anyone over
six. Nine year old Billy’s quest for his missing
Granddad through the pages of some of the greatest,
and worst writing, in the world, is dogged by the
sinister presence of the bookworms, furiously devouring
his tale as fast as he can tell it.
Pickled Image are Dik Downey and Vicky Andrew. Previous
work includes designing and making for Green Ginger,
the Wright Stuff Theatre of Puppets, and the BBC’s
Big Read, and creating and performing the notoriously
puerile street show, Bernard’s Puppet Bonanza. |

Ed
Hartwell |
Ed
Hartwell has just finished the short paper puppet
film called Time
Looters.
Length: 12mins
Download size: 13mb
Dir. Ed Hartwell
Genre: Comedy live action puppets/animation
Synopsis: Mad inventor, Rupert Tofton has built
a time machine and intends to use it to find the
hidden treasure of Big Beard the pirate. His plan
involves stealing Big Beards treasure map from under
his nose and hoping he doesn't notice. Maybe disguising
the time machine as a Wendy house wasn't such a
good idea after all.

Figure
of Speech |
 |
Two
multi-media shadow puppet shows will be performed
in Barton Hill in March – using video, music
and dance. Moontime and Rama are produced by Redfield-based
company Figure of Speech which has an office in
Bethesda Church. Moontime features a dancer and
Rama contains Indian shadow puppetry with music
and animation - an interaction between these art
forms to explore the relationship between light,
colours, shadow, dance and music.
The shows have already gone down a storm at the
Bath International Puppet Festival and the Phoenix
Theatre in Exeter. Bristol musicians have written
most of the score – and Jonathan hopes after
the performances he will be able to start multi-media
workshops in the New Deal area.
The shows will be take place on Friday March 4 at
Community at Heart in Salisbury Street, starting
at 7.30pm. Entrance will be free – but donations
are welcome for the Tsunami appeal.
