Welcome to Animations!
Animations is a quarterly online magazine run by the Puppet Centre Trust. It is a voice for contemporary puppetry and related arts, offering discussion and debate, reviews, and news from the puppet community and elsewhere. It’s an essential read for anyone interested in puppetry in all its diverse manifestations. Animations Online aims to represent the full spectrum of professional practice, from traditional puppetry to experimental visual theatre using puppetry or animation.

In this edition, we have two features about the UNIMA 2008 gathering in Perth. There’s a round-up and reflection on the Congress and World Puppetry Festival from Matthew Isaac Cohen, and a special extra by Adam Bennett on the Puppet Sports event. Closer to home, we bring you a report from Covent Garden by Martin Reeve, who is pleased as Punch to tell us that May Fayre 2008 was full of fun for all.

From the Frontline brings you the story of The River People’s new show, Lilly Through the Dark, which premieres at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August. Our Company Profile is of Scotland’s own Shona Reppe.

In our Reviews section you’ll find a special report from the x.trax street arts showcase in Manchester, which featured a hefty amount of puppetry. There are also reviews of Horse and Bamboo’s Veil; Christopher Leith’s Scholastica; and Theatre-Rites’ Lighten Up, amongst others.

The News and Noticeboard section is the place to read about the current and future plans of puppeteers and puppet-theatre companies, and to catch up on other news, events and opportunities.

We also have details here of how you can order a copy of our exciting new edition of Animations in Print (Vol 2), which, amongst many other delights, features articles by Ronnie Burkett, Lyn Gardner, Stephen Mottram and Mervyn Millar.

As always, your feedback is very welcome. Deadline for the autumn 2008 edition is 1 September. We look forward to hearing your news, views and suggestions for future content. Please send press releases, news items and suggestions for editorial content to:
