As the influence of puppetry on theatre practice grows ever more prevalent, from the stages of the RSC to the streets of London, from the packed houses of Improbable to the studios of the Tate, The Puppet Centre Trust launches Animations in Print, a new annual exploring the state of the art in the UK.

Volume 1 in the series, Animated Encounters - a review of puppetry and related arts focuses on puppetry's interaction with other art forms, and on projects using puppetry that we initiated, developed or brought to fruition in 2006. Combining newly commissioned contributions with updated and expanded articles from Animations Online, Animated Encounters includes practitioner led and academic approaches, and features articles by John Fox and Ken Campbell as well as an interview with Madame Butterfly director Anthony Minghella.

At just £15 Animated Encounters is essential reading for anyone interested in contemporary puppetry in all its diverse theatrical manifestations.
